Joran Frogner 24 has a traumatic brain injury from a truck that t-boned her 4 years ago that had no insurance. She needs a new wheelchair as she has grown and gained 60lbs since she got her first wheelchair but Medicare says that is not reason enough to get a new chair, her hips are 23" wide and she is sitting in a 16" wide chair and it hurts her, the chair has to be custom made to support her. We would also like to get her a 2nd step lite gate harness system walker but Medicare won't pay for a walker because she is in a wheelchair and the kind of walker she needs is considered a luxury item because she can't hold onto a regular walker due to he contracted hands. It would help her to walk and not keep gaining weight due to sitting in a wheelchair all day. We also need to get her van lift fixed as it keeps shorting out before it stops working. We would also like to get her a wheelchair accessible shower as she has been getting bed baths for 4 years because we had to turn our dining room into her bedroom on the first floor and bathrooms are on the second floor. She has unpaid medical bills and needs continued physical therapy, occupational and speech. But Medicare only pays for $1500. in therapy per year, that is not enough for someone with a traumatic brain injury. She has come so far but her care is so expensive, her Mom is her primary care giver as she is total care and can not do anything for herself. These things would make a difference in her quality of life and help her if she is to get any better.
