Abel Parra - Plan for a Van

News Channel 12 Story 

Help us raise funds to buy Abel a new wheelchair accessible van! Years ago, Abel sustained a spinal cord injury has been using a wheelchair ever since. The engine in his old van recently seized up and must be replaced. His personal mobility is the key to his independence, and he is very independent!

 

Abel has had several cars over the years, but he really liked the van. The lift door never did close properly, and the air conditioning blows less than cool air, and it has left him stranded several times, but we never hear Abel complain...at least he could take himself from place to place. He’s been utilizing public transportation for a month, increasing his already long day by adding extra hours for travel.

Abel has been a hardworking member of the Phoenix Fire Department, Fire Prevention Section for 20 years. As a customer service clerk, he is the face of Fire Prevention; manning the front counter for his entire career, he is knowledgeable, funny and always helpful. Abel likes to go and explore new cities, towns and always finds “where the locals go”.
