HEALING THE CHILDREN'S MEDICAL MISSION TO NEIVA, COLOMBIA
MEDICAL MISSIONS: PLEASE HELP US HEAL CHILDREN!
Each year over thirty teams of doctors, nurses and allied personnel travel to countries to supply surgical treatment to children with cleft lips and palates, club feet, burn scars, heart problems, urological diseases, and many other disfiguring or congenital deformities. In May we are traveling to Neiva, Colombia with Healing the Children. We all put a tremendous amount of effort into preparation for these missions. We all fundraise to secure supplies and to pay for our airfare.
Since 1983, HTC's medical missions teams have treated over 186,353 children and provide surgery on approximately 3,000 children a year. You can see why the work that Healing the Children does is so important. Healing the Children is the last chance for many needy children around the world.
I am asking for your support. Please make a donation to help give the children of Colombia access to the medical care they so desperately need.
Dr. David Hoffman, the mission’s surgical director, has been at the forefront of bringing cleft lip and palate surgery to this region for more than 20 years. His vision and close relationships with the people and medical professionals of Colombia leads the expanded scope of the Healing the Children Neiva, Colombia program. Dr. Hoffman is one of a select few oral surgeons worldwide that has the surgical and educator credentials that encompass the full range of cleft lip and palate cases, from pre-natal identification to the post-op treatment plans that often require additional surgeries, orthodontics, speech therapy, and the treatment management that extends to adulthood.
Our team consists of over 50 volunteers from the United States, Colombia, and other countries who travel to Neiva, Colombia, to screen over 800 children and to perform close to 200 surgeries that range from cleft lip and palate to foot, hip, and other congenital and traumatic deformities. We set up over 10 operating room tables and a screening facility coordinates the efforts of speech pathologists, geneticists, orthopedics, orthodontists, and plastic surgeons, enabling them to establish a database for all patients and their prescribed follow up care.
Despite the fact that we are all volunteers that donate our time, and expertise, funds are still needed for airfare
and most importantly to introduce new techniques, equipment, and treatments.
