Sunrise To Sunset

Donation protected
On Friday 21st December at 7:18am, I will be heading out of the door for a run, however this run will finish at sunset.

Over the past 12 months I have struggled with my mental health, however on one cold, wet and miserable February morning I headed out for a run, even though the idea of staying warm and dry at home was far more tempting. Two miles into the run I exchanged a morning "hello" with a cyclist, who turned out to be local legendary cyclist and filmmaker Brendon Tyree, little did I know this exchange would help heal me.

Fast forward four months and the short film A Golden Day which is based on running from sunrise to sunset was released, the hours spent running around the Peak District shooting the film in the majestic scenery was a truly healing and a spiritual experience which I will never forget.

Had it not been for my Year 5 teach Mr Malkin (you can call him Craig) I may never have become a runner, I will be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me as a 9 year old to take running up. Craig still works within primary schools within Sheffield developing sporting opportunities for school children within Sheffield. I was given the opportunity to support an after school running club Craig set up at within his cluster of schools. These children made my week, they started out not wanting to come but over the weeks the numbers grew and they would race each other to meet me in the park, seeing how running had changed this group of children was amazing. I have great inspiration from this group of school children and want to see this happening more, sport is an incredible thing, which can have a snowball effect and change lives.

I have decided to raise money to help fund the running community within Craig's School Partnership, initially the aim is to raise enough to buy the children who attend the Running Club sports kit (a school logo branded sports top), fund them to go to an external coaching camp and depending on the money raised support a fun run which children from all over Sheffield attend. The overall cost per child to include the kit, coaching and fun run entry is £50, my aim is to give 10 children the opportunity to run and experience something which may change their way of life for the future, as I know sport can have an amazing impact on your life, even from a young age, the more money raised the more children we can support via sport.

Initially I had planned on raising money for a mental health charity, however grassroots sport is so important to me and has helped me, so with the money raised here, if we can help just one child either become an outstanding runner or find a release from life through running then I will be happy and grateful for all donations.

A little bit more about the run…... I will be setting off 1 hour before sunrise at 7:18am and finishing 30 minutes after sunset at 16:18, during these 9 hours i am hoping to cover around 40 – 50 miles over the fells of the beautiful Peak District, once I've mapped out my route I will post it up here. I might be a runner but I've never ran this far in one day, so any support will be more than welcomed!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
