Firstly a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far!
I know it seems like a lot but Mia hasn’t been able to work since August 2018 and so the living and medical costs of the past 8 months have already used the $10,000 raised...
We had hoped to start receiving government assistance this month (March) however have been advised that we will not be eligible for another three months due to some time spent overseas and the conditions of her residency
Here is a summary for those of you who may not know the story:
* Diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive tumour in the right side of the skull
(Desmoplastic Fibroma) which eats the bone
* Second (different) tumour subsequently found in the forehead which is yet to be diagnosed as either benign or cancerous
* After the first surgery failed to get it all, a second neurosurgery on 26/02/19 removed 50% of her natural skull
* Family live overseas so currently in the care of close friends who are doing all they can to ensure her wellness and strength for pre surgery and post recovery
As you can all imagine, this has been a devastating and lengthy process and after being dismissed from her job due to her illness, Mia has been left with no money and no idea when she can work again...
The nerve damage from the surgery and swelling on her brain has left her with walking and speech difficulties and she has required 24/7 care... since she does not yet qualify for any government help, Team Mia is working hard on exploring other financial avenues but basically, your generosity is all she has to keep her going at the moment...
Any funds you can contribute will put towards rent for the coming months and her extended care which involves pain management, nutrition, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological support and a number of other services that are required to make sure she can fully recover and get back to normal...
This support has honestly been keeping her alive and preventing her from becoming homeless so thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Mia as she makes her way through one of the most difficult circumstances a person could face...
