Support Ric & Barb Martin

On December 3, 2013 we discovered that my dad, Ric Martin, had a tumor on the left side of his brain. He was immediately admitted to ICU and scheduled to have brain surgery to remove the golf ball sized tumor that was discovered there. On December 5, 2013 the surgery was performed and we learned that the tumor was a stage 4 cancer known as glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma is an incredibly aggressive cancer and is difficult to treat. Ric immediately began therapy to recover from the brain surgery which affected his ability to use his right side, the vision in his right eye and his ability to speak. Ric spent roughly 3 weeks in the hospital recovering and rehabilitating. By the time he was released to go home his speech and movement had improved significantly, but he still had a long way to go to recover these motor skills entirely.


In early January we began to prepare for radiation and chemotherapy in response to the glioblastoma. Just prior to these treatments beginning, a major infection was discovered in Ric's brain. He was immediately admitted to ICU once again and was treated aggressively with antibiotics to control the infection. On January 8, 2014 Ric underwent brain surgery once again so that surgeons could remove and treat the infection.


Again, Ric has to rehabilitate from the aftermath of having a second brain surgery. He is working once again to regain movement on his right side and is struggling to recover his speech. He will also continue to be treated for the infection for several weeks. In addition, he is once again scheduled to begin radiation and chemotherapy in early February.


More than anything, we need your prayers. Pray that Ric would be healed COMPLETELY. Pray that he would regain full movement and his ability to speak would no longer be hindered. Pray that Ric will have the strength needed to complete radiation and chemo. Pray for Barb as she navigates this new season of doctor appointments, therapies and treatments. Pray for our family - we need your support during this time!
