Hey Sue... What bracket? What time do the girls need to be there? Who do we play? How many are in our pool? When are tryouts? Why do my kid's knee pads smell so bad...?

By now, we all know the go-to girl has gone to the hospital. And her stay will be a long one indeed. Early this month, Sue was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, and her particular case is as critical as critical can be. Doctors are moving VERY quickly to attempt a bone marrow transplant now that her brother has been identified as a suitable donor.

Like me, you've probably tried to imagine what life must be like for Sue and her family right now... Emotionally, physically, and financially. These kinds of life events simply can't be planned for, but I've seen first-hand the impact that prayer and friendship can have in times like these!

My mom was hospitalized for months on end when I was a child. While casseroles for David and the kids are a wonderful thing, they will soon learn the freezer can only hold so many. There's also the reality that he and the kids are hanging out in hospital hallways miles away from their microwave. Cafeteria food, $12 dollar daily parking, constantly topping of the gas tank for daily trips to UCLA.... these are the 'little costs' that can be a slow & destructive drain on a family's finances.

Sue is scheduled for transplant on February 4th. Her 2-3 months in the hospital will be followed with a mandatory 2 week (or longer) stay at a hotel right by the hospital in case of rejection issues. There is no timeline for when she may be able to go back to work. Suffice it to say, it won't be anytime soon. And let's just put this out there now... She's going to need a hat & scarf fund for chilly days after chemo plays its cruel tricks!

My hope is that we can free her from the worry that these unplanned expenses may soon create so she can focus on what's really important... Her recovery and San Gabriel Elite's winning season. ;-)
