Tony was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia (both sides of his lungs) and Type A influenza (H1N1 flu). He was admitted to Mclaren hospital in Lansing by ambulance on Monday (1/6/2014) after being seen at the urgent care. On Friday (1/10/14) we decided to make the move to UofM. He is currently on the surgical ICU floor (5D).
Tony is on a ventilator that is helping him breathe since he is unable to exchange sufficient oxygen on his own. They are continuing to regulate his blood pressure on and off as well as supporting all other body systems.
Going on week 3, the doctors are attempting to wean him off the vent. He is now off of IV sedation meds and receiving crushed pills through a feeding tube. Tony's time in ICU may range anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months based on the recovery time of other influenza patients.
While the move out of ICU may take some time, his road to recovery outside of the hospital will also be long. We ask to please pray and send positive thoughts/energy for Tony and his family in their time of need.
Many friends and family have asked to make a financial contribution since both Tony and his wife, Tina, are self-employed. We have set up this page for those who wish to do so.
Outside of the hospital, Tony is a self-employed tree guy. He likes to hunt and fish in his spare time but also spend his evenings watching the sci-fi or history channels. If asked about him, just about anyone will tell you he can fix anything and if not, it isn't broken! He knows more about history than most and is filled with information on just about any topic you'd want to discuss. He loves his family more than life and will vocalize freely how proud he is of his two daughters; Megan and Morgan.
