Post TBI Rehabilitation for James

My son, James Spence, turned 18 in August of 2013. He was a passenger in a car that had an accident on December 6th, 2013 while he was on his way home from school. He and 2 other boys were ejected from the vehicle. James's injuries included a mandible and clavicle fracture, which he had surgery to correct and also injuries to his brain. He was in the neuro ICU for a few weeks, and then was suddenly transferred to the ICU at a long term acute care hospital, because of medical insurance nonsense. He is progressing wonderfully with the therapy he is receiving, but again it is time for the insurance company to push him onto a new place. He is in need of specialized therapy for patients with brain injuries which is costly even to get him there. We are working on having him sent to a rehabilitation that specializes in patients with brain injuries. Here he will receive 5-7 hours of therapy a day and constant interaction with people closer to his age group as apposed to 3 hours of therapy a day around older people, then hours of sitting in his room, with people who are a lot older than him. We assumed that he would receive money from the accident to assist in paying for the rehabilitation that he is in need of, and soon found out that after everyone else takes a cut from that money he will pretty much be left with nothing. We are tring to raise money to help ensure he gets the best rehab that he can, so that he can have a real chance at having his life back, and are grasping at straws to make it a reality.
