Kidney Transplant-Team B

Recently, my cousin Michael was diagnosed with Stage 5 (End Stage) Renal failure which is a result of having genetic Polycystic Kidney Disease. Over the years, he had been successful in maintaining his kidney function from deteriorating by diet, exercise and routine labs. Then unexpectedly in August he was told that his kidney function had plummeted to 5%. Although he was not feeling great, the news was devastating and they advised him that dialysis and/or a transplant was needed ASAP. Although he expected a transplant in his future, he never imagined it would be so soon.

Without hesitation, his wife Sandie began the process of testing to see if she was a suitable match.  She got the news last weeked that she is, infact,  a MATCH.   

Although they have medical insurance, the costs and fee's involved with a live donor transplant will be substantial. Since they are both the donor and recipient, their costs over the next year can surge.   

For the first year after a transplant, a patient remains at high risk for rejection, and there are many costs associated with monitoring and guarding against this, as well as with recuperation in other ways. After care is crucial and it's expensive. That's where we can help. Michael's Transplant team advised that he should have a contingency fund in place, which can be put towards these costs. Please give what you can and spread the word. All donations will be transfered directly to Michael and Sandie. Their transplant will take place in the next 30-45 days.
