Team Mike

Donation protected
We have set up this page for a dear coworker and friend of ours. Michelle is a pediatric ER nurse at Sacred Heart. This woman has blown us all away with her strength and poise during this trying time in her personal life. Please read their incredible story and remember that every donation helps, big or small. Lets bring Mike back home!! TEAM MIKE!

I am writing this on behalf of my husband and best friend, Mike Lowrey. He is 47 years-old, a devoted husband, a fantastic father, and a loyal friend. In addition to being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
March 2013, Mike was recovering from a MRSA staph infection obtained during a cervical spinal fusion and revision, circulating blasts were discovered during routine lab work, a bone marrow biopsy was performed, and Mike received the devastating confirmation of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on April 1, 2013. Mike immediately began induction chemotherapy, but failed remission during treatment in Pensacola, FL.
Mikes' local oncologist did not waste any time and referred him to the MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Houston, TX for a stem cell transplant as his only hope.
During further bone marrow studies, a molecular exam concluded that Mike is FLT-3/ITD positive, he would not respond to traditional treatment, he is now on a clinical trial study andNEEDS A STEM CELL TRANSPLANT IN ORDER TO SURVIVE.
Mike has received his transplant on October 9, 2013--everything was progressing as planned, no evidence of disease noted during his bone marrow biopsy,Mike was slowly regaining his strength, was able to spend the holiday's with myself and 2 of his 4 children, he completed his survivorship class teaching him how to inter grate back into the community and to slowly have more friends and family visits, BUT, 2 days after Christmas, devastation again..a relapse, this time the leukemia has hit full force with 88,000 blasts, found in his bone marrow..the highest number of circulating leukemia blasts we've ever seen. We are back at square one! Chemotherapy and another plan for SECOND STEM CELL TRANSPLANT.
Although Mike is fortunate to have insurance, there are many uninsured medical and relocation expenses that we face. I am asking for your help in Mike's fight for his life.
To help ease the financial burden, we are setting up this donation account, thank you so much for your support during this difficult time.
