Helping Mark .. Every little bit helps

Donation protected

Many of you know Mark Appleby "“ he is one of the sweetest people I know, and over the years, he has become like a second father to me. Unfortunately, Mark has been dealing with some very serious health issues recently, and could use any help you are willing to provide.

Last February, Mark slipped on some ice. He didn't think anything of it at the time because he didn't feel any pain. The next month, however, Mark went to the hospital for problems he was having with his toe (diabetes related) and while he was there, he complained to the nurse about headaches he had been having. It turned out that those headaches were caused by bleeding in the brain from Mark's fall the month before. Mark was immediately rushed into surgery and put into a medically induced coma. They also amputated his toe.

Mark's recovery from surgery was touch and go for a while, but he eventually pulled through. We all thought that we had our old Mark back: until this Christmas. On Christmas morning, Keith noticed that Mark was behaving differently, so they went to the hospital. Mark was diagnosed with pneumonia and they also found blood clots and he had an irregular heart beat. Because Mark was considered to be a fall risk patient, he was kept at the hospital on bed rest. Since that time, Mark has lost a significant amount of strength and kidney function (they are only functioning at 20%). The situation is so grave that Mark has been placed on a kidney transplant list. After recovering from pneumonia, Mark was placed in a nursing home / physical rehabilitation center to rebuild his strength.

Unfortunately, Mark's road to recovery is going to be long and grueling. It is also going to be quite expensive "“ despite insurance coverage. Mark is a very proud person and would love to have his flight attendant legs back but he knows that ship has sailed. The doctors have told Mark that he won't be able to return to work.

Medical bills are adding up and the care for Mark is ongoing.

This page has been created for Mark and Keith to help them with any and all medical bills.  Any help is truly cherished...  Please share with others to help reach the goal.
