Help Build Me an Elevator!

Following my diagnosis of Friedreich's Ataxia in 2004, walking has become increasingly difficult- and now 10 years later, I use a wheelchair pretty much full-time. I didn't plan on not walking this soon (or ever! I was always determined to remain out of the chair as long as possible), but a number of other obstacles landed my way in the past four years. In 2010, I was diagnosed with bone cancer (luckily it was localized in my femur) and underwent 7 difficult months of chemotherapy, where I hardly wanted to move... Needless to say, I lost a lot of weight and muscle mass. Then, over the course of the following two years, I had three surgeries on my leg- first to get rid of the cancer, then to redo the surgery because the metal didn't attach to my bone properly, and finally a third surgery because the titanium rod had snapped (for no apparent reason).
After each surgery, I was told to avoid weight bearing for three months, and I gradually lost the limited ability I'd been holding on to.
Before chemo, I was told I'd probably never have kids. Though I had wanted to wait for a while anyway, I was very sad at this. It was shocking news when, months after my final surgery in 2012, I found out I was pregnant! Everyone was and continues to be very happy.
Now 2014 just began and I have an adorable baby boy- Noah! Not to mention I have a huge support network- loving friends and family, and a wonderful partner.
The problem is- my room is on the second story. Even after the traumatic surgeries, I was able to walk up the stairs. But with all my pregnancy weight, it got to be too much. The price you pay for a beautiful healthy baby! Now my 8 month old is crawling and walking (he's ahead of me), and soon he'll be running downstairs and playing outside; leaving me all alone in my room! When my parents built our house, they had planned to eventually put in an elevator, but after all the medical bills and surrounding stress it has become but a dream!
The money raised on this site would go towards installing an elevator, paying off the rest of the hospital debt I've racked up (to the excellent care of Kaiser Oakland), and finally towards mobility equipment that would make my life easier.
