Uganda Lend a Hand

Tax deductible
Two years ago I had the privilege of traveling to Uganda, Africa with my church South Tampa Fellowship.  It was an unforgettable, life-changing experience.  I am hoping to return to Uganda this summer and continue the work we started.  I need to raise $3,500 to make this dream a reality.  Below is a more detailed description of the work I did there and hope to continue.  If you can make any donation (which is tax-deductable) toward my trip, it would be greatly appreciated.  Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to pray for me and my upcoming trip and for the people of Uganda.

For the first part of my trip, I worked with the God is Grace Program. Through this program, women in Uganda are sponsored by people in the U.S. They are given $35 a month for an entire year. During that year, the women are expected to learn a trade, such as sewing, making jewelry, or cooking. That way, when the year of sponsorship is over, the women are able to support themselves. The year I went, there were 60 women in Uganda that were sponsored. I was able to meet with over 30 of them. For some, we went to their homes and saw where they lived. Others traveled hours on foot just to see us. We interviewed the women, gave them their next two months of support, presented them with a gift, letter, and photo from their sponsor, and prayed with them. Most of the women in the program are believers, but still there are some that are not. I am happy to say that I was able to witness four women accept Jesus into their hearts for the first time.

Another big part of our mission trip was our medical clinic. Each day we saw around 500 patients and were able to provide medical, dental, and eye care. On my first day in the clinic, I handed out pills in order to de-worm almost 300 people. The other days in the clinic, I served as a dental assistant for a Ugandan dentist. This consisted of sterilizing the instruments, loading the syringes, and holding the patients' hands.

We also spent a lot of time working at the Miss Agnes Orphanage. My team built a large garden on the property and planted various vegetables. The orphanage has a small school where other children in the village can be educated. We delivered a suitcase full of books, and I was able to read "David and Goliath" to a third grade class. The only text they had seen before was what their teacher has written on the board. So I had never seen more excited faces then when showing them their new books. In my seven years of being a teacher, this was by far my favorite teaching moment.
