Liam's Cochlear Implant Cost
Donation protected
Liam C. Fox was born on February 17th 2014 and for all everyone could tell he was totally developed and in perfect health. He passed all of his newborn tests and began what we thought was a normal life. However, as he grew, and we learned, we started to notice that something about Liam was not totally normal. He wasn’t responding to his name or to any noise, and for the first time we knew something might not be quite right with our precious boy.
After failing his initial hearing tests, he was referred for an Auditory Brainstem Response test (ABR) to find out the extent of his hearing impairment. The heartbreaking results of that test were that Liam had profound hearing loss in his left ear and severe to profound loss in his right. He was diagnosed with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This hearing loss is irreversible and in laymen’s terms this means that he is almost entirely deaf with only some sound response from his right ear. After 6 months of working with hearing aids, we have discovered that Liam’s hearing is continuing to become worse which is normally associated with a genetic issue that will continue to deteriorate what little hearing he has left until he is totally deaf.
Fortunately, we live in a world where medical technology is prevalent and by surgically implanting Liam with Cochlear Implants he will be able to hear all of the things that he deserves and desires to hear in life. Things that most of us take for granted that he cannot even hear with hearing aids. Unfortunately, with that technology, even with good insurance, comes a high monetary cost that a majority of people would not normally be able to pay.
This is why we are asking for help. It breaks out heart that we do not have the money to pay for these surgeries on our own. But we also have to do whatever it takes, no matter our pride, and no matter the circumstance, to ensure that our little boy can hear the wind, the ocean, the birds, and so that he can develop normal speech and live a totally fulfilled life.
If you cannot give your money, we understand completely, but please give your prayers. We know that through God all things are possible and we know that he holds Liam’s future in his merciful and loving hands.
Thank you.
