This past Christmas Eve 2013 I had just received a call that my brother Lee Carlson was in the ER, CT scan in progress. For the past month or so he had been having problems with his eyelids drooping, thick tongue, slurring and very tired. They had no idea what was wrong with him and sent him home. On Christmas day he was holding his eyes open to see and his slurring was very bad. Not being able to talk or eat properly due to his tongue being so thick. It was heartbreaking to see my brother this way.
You see, all his life he has been hardworking. Worked hard to provide for his family and also worked in the community to help make life better for others. He has a beautiful wife and five wonderful children, four of which are still living at home and the oldest a school teacher in their community.
His life will change in many ways. It has already. Not long ago he was let go at his job when new people took over. He opened his own restaurant which he is now unable to work at since he has been diagnosed. He has tried. His wife has stopped her at home child care business and will be working at the restaurant when she can. Lee needs her help at home to get around at times and to medical visits, etc.
He has no insurance. More test have been ordered and specialist to see:.. The test must be paid for before they can be given. He has been told to fill out papers for disability. Disability says..test must be done before we can look at your claim. The medicine he was given is very costly. His symptoms are now becoming worse instead of better.
Thick tongue/slurring, vision not working so he needs help at times when walking, his arms and hands are not working properly so he drops things and cannot do normal things he did before.
His smile is not there.
His heart is breaking.
He has been diagnosed with MYASTHENIA GRAVIS
I started this page reaching out to ask for help for my brother and his family.
The goal has been set at $50,000 ..though I actually have no idea what the cost will be.
Asking that you search your heart and if at all possible you help with these many unexpected medical cost that are racking up at a fast pace. And, help the family during this time. We want to thank you so much and let you know that any donation of any size is worth a million in our eyes. Thank you!
