Luke's Recovery Journey
On September 12, 2022 Luke was in an accident on his motorcycle and sustained major head trauma. He was taken into emergency surgery where they were able to get control of the bleeding and remove a large piece of his skull to allow room for the swelling. He was kept in a medically-induced coma and on life support for 8 days.
On Monday 09/19 he had a tracheotomy. They replaced the tube in is mouth with a tube in his throat. He has been weaned off the IV sedation and now able to make eye contact with us and squeeze our hands. We were told by the doctors that head trauma patients take a very long time for their brain to recover. With each day Luke makes small progress. He will not be able to speak until the trach (tube in his throat) is removed. That could be 4-6 weeks.
Once he is well enough to leave the ICU he will need to go into an acute-care or intermediate care center and undergo extensive physical therapy to regain his functions. He did not have health insurance so it will be a challenge to find a facility that will take him. We are raising money to help provide the care and therapy he will need to recovery fully. Please pray that God directs our steps to find the best care available for Luke. We love you and appreciate your prayers and your support. ❤️
