In late April, I will be attending a leadership training called The Amherst Writer's And Artist Method (AWA). You can learn more about it here: http://www.amherstwriters.com/index.php/training/initial-leadership-training. Your support will help with the costs of the workshop, travel and start-up costs to offer community writing groups. I will be offering writing and art centered groups to support people who are supporting their loved in hospice care or have recently lost a loved friend or family member. Art and writing were the greatest source of comfort I found as I walked that path with my mother.
Explorer. Artist. Photographer. Educator. Writer. Swashbuckling World Traveler. That's me in a few simple words. Changing career paths from professional photographer to writer and creative group facitilator is an exciting and challenging endevour. I have been blessed by the support I have from my family and friends as I navigate the mystery of this journey.
After moving to Virginia in the fall of 2013, I have given deep consideration to the direction of my life's work. "¨As many of you know, this past year I took time away from my business and fulfilled a life-long dream of traveling around the world. I returned to the States re-invigorated by the places I visited, my many experiences of different cultures, and all the people I met. I took thousands of photographs and have wonderful stories to share. My tireless fascination with the natural world, art making, and people allows me to see the beauty in life's mundane moments which I believe are all sacred. I love helping people unleash their creativity by inspiring them to create through personal stories.
"¨While in Greece during my world travels, I participated in a 12 day writing retreat that was led in the Amherst Writer's style. I was profoundly moved by the workshop and found that I really loved the way AWA provides a safe environment for everyone to write, share and listen in a group that offers positive support to all writers of all levels. This training will provide me with facilitation skills to offer writing & creativity groups to a wide range of communities. I believe it merges well with my expertise as an arts educator. Over the past 15 years, I have lead over 25 artist-in-education residencies in public schools in NJ & NY. My goal is to create opportunities to bring art and creativity to under-served communities. In leading groups I will provide a safe environment to inspire people of all ages to Play, Explore, Discover, Find Their Voice, Tell Their Story, Know That Their Imagination and Creativity are Valued and Worthy of Expression!!! I believe there should be more opportunities for ART & WRITING FOR EVERYONE.
