Medical Volunteer Work in Tanzania

Donation protected
Friends, family, & incredibly generous strangers -

This August I plan to go to Arusha, Tanzania for 4 weeks to do some medical volunteer work. I am hoping to raise funds to a) help me pay for the trip and b) buy medical supplies to donate to my placement.

I have registered for the trip with International Volunteer HQ (http://www.volunteerhq.org/volunteer-in-tanzania). While this program is very affordable, between visas, work permits, insurance, and flights the cost does add up. I wanted to ask my family and friends who support this volunteer trip to assist me in paying for it. See a breakdown of the costs at the bottom of this page.

I also wanted to raise money to donate directly to the clinic I will be volunteering with, or to purchase medical supplies with, depending on what the clinic would find most helpful. I would bring this money with me to Arusha in August and, after meeting with my placement and discussing it with them, purchase the supplies in Arusha and give them to the clinic, or give the money to the clinic directly. Examples of supplies I would purchase with your donation include vitamins, calcium tablets, antibiotics, antiseptics, medical family guides, and first aid materials like bandages and gauze. If I raise enough, I may be able to purchase more advanced equipment or medicines that the clinic needs.

I will split the money I raise between these two efforts equally, under the conditions that I use a minimum of $300 towards the donation to my placement and a maximum of $2,200 towards my own trip costs. So if I raise only $200, all of it will go to the clinic donation. If I raise $500, $300 will go to the donation, and $200 will go to my trip costs. If I raise my goal of $5,000, $2,200 will go to my trip costs and $2,700 will go to the donation.

So that you know where your money is going and that it is being used in the way you intended, I will note all expenditures as I make them in my volunteer diary which you can access at your convenience (http://www.volunteerhq.org/volunteer-diaries/lauren-19). I will also post other information about my trip here as well as photos!

Also, feel free to email me with questions at any time. Thank you so much for reading about this cause and considering making a donation!
