Kellans Positive Support Team

Kellen is young boy whom has recently started his fight against cancer.

January 15th, 2014
- Two great pieces of news are that firstly, Kellan has Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) which is the type of leukemia that has the highest curability rate and secondly, based on the spinal tap and bone marrow tests, it has not spread however part of his meds for the first month will tackle any microscopic leukemia cells that may be elsewhere which the spinal tap cannot see (hopefully none at all but they do it in case)

- However, it has been a very difficult week and will be for awhile. His blood cell counts go up and down and thus had a few transfusions. He has been fighting some health issues throughout the week which meant he has to stay in his room for a couple of days so the dr's could ensure it isn't an infection. That is unfortunate for Kelly Belly because he can't leave the cancer ward but he was able to leave his room and play the air hockey game in his ward. It was one thing that made him feel better so to not be able to do that now made him sad. Looks like someone is bringing in a air hockey table into his room though which is great!

- He is petrified any time the door opens because he thinks it is someone coming to poke or prod him and upset him so much. It has been horrible process for Jason and Robin to deal with Kellan during needles, tests and medicine so is painful for all of them. And of course, he continually asks to go home and just doesn't understand why all this is happening but how could he?

- He had a tube put in his chest today for his weekly chemo treatments and for the 2nd medicine he has to take. He will also have to take 2 other oral medicines twice daily...that will be difficult in itself. He will probably be in the hospital for another week and WHEN all goes well, can go home after that. He will then go back to the hospital every week for his chemo treatments.

- That is the treatment plan for the first month. After 28 days, they will then do more bone marrow tests and determine what the course of treatment will be for the 6 months after that.
