Help us Feed More People and Waste Less Food

Tax deductible
Ever wonder where all of our excess food from events, restaurants, and other food businesses goes? Utah’s landfills. Until now, that is.

Since 2018, Waste Less Solutions, with over six hundred volunteers and over two thousand followers, has rescued 1.6 million pounds of food—the equivalent of 1.4 million meals going to partners like YWCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Utah Pride Center, homeless shelters, and other Utah-based organizations.

We do not lack food; we lack the ability to distribute the excess food we produce. Waste Less Solutions is dedicated to solving this problem. Our mission is to prevent, divert, and educate people about food waste.

When You Support Waste Less Solutions, You Also Support:

  • The Environment | According to the USDA’s Economic Research Service, approximately 40% of food supply goes to waste. And it is not just food that is wasted, but all the land, energy, and water that go into food production. In landfills, food waste generates methane, which is 25% more potent than carbon dioxide. Reducing food waste is one of the most impactful ways individuals and businesses can mitigate climate change.

  • Social Justice and Equity | 11% of the US population is food insecure. In Utah, this number is close to 15%. When millions of pounds of nutritious food end up in the trash, something in the system is broken. Waste Less Solutions breaks this cycle: we prevent perfectly good food from going into landfills and redistribute it to people in need.

  • Healthy Food for All | We provide nutritious food to individuals and families who may not have access to enough food. By addressing food insecurity, we improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

  • Assisting our Unsheltered Neighbors | much of our rescued food serves our unsheltered population.

  • The Work of Local Nonprofits | Our rescued food also goes to one hundred local nonprofits, which helps them support interpersonal violence survivors and their children, low-income families, Utahns experiencing medical crises, and much more.

Oftentimes community members do not understand why a non-profit would require more funding, and here is why: because of our exponential growth, the demand for our services is far exceeding our capacity to deliver. It is a great problem to have! But with a small staff, limited funds, and millions of pounds of food still going to waste, we have a huge gap in our resources compared to the work we still need to do. Our very survival is at risk.

To date, we have been mostly funded by local foundations, all of which goes to fund our programs. Currently, we are between funding cycles and are experiencing higher demands for our services. This, coupled with some of our funders taking longer to respond to our requests, has created a funding deficit. We love what we do but it takes funding to do it.

We are humbly asking all of you—our community, partners, donors, receiving agencies, volunteers, and neighbors, to help us reach our goal of $50,000. Achieving this goal will give us breathing room to ramp up new revenue-generating programs, seek new funding sources, and find time to write more grants. This funding will go directly to funding our food rescue program.

If every one of our 2000+ followers invested just $25, we would meet our goal! We are also asking if you would share this link with ten other people in your network. We can do this together!
