A movement starts with a single gesture

With each new year comes a reflection on the one that's just passed, and if we're lucky, we come with a better understanding of ourselves and the lessons we learned.

For me, last year was a series of challenges that tested my mental strength just as much as the physical, if not more. As I worked to expand my brand and my company, Drench Fitness, I also maintained my personal training clients and teaching classes. If I wasn't in the gym motivating clients personally, I was on my various social media platforms doling out tips, recipes, articles, and motivation to my online following.

Meanwhile, my wife was pregnant with our first child, and my father's health was fading at an alarming rate. And within a couple months of each other, I experienced the best and worst days of my life: the birth of my beautiful daughter, and the death of the man who was not only my father, but my idol, mentor, and best friend.

2013 was a stressful year that stress brought back old injuries--like back pain from a car accident and a separated shoulder that ended my fighting career--that I'd thought long gone. This unfortunate occurrence has made me realize that working out in a gym is not enough to get our bodies in the best physical condition for what our daily lives demand of us. Life isnt always about isolation and stretching its about movement and and ability to have a full range of movement.

So, in having learned this lesson, one of my first goals for 2014 is to become PCC and RKC certified. PCC and RKC will help me design better wellness programs Both for everyday life, as well as for those who are autistic or suffer from ADD/ADHD. I firmly believe in my mission to help others achieve their health and fitness goals. To give them the tools and education to be the very best they can be. However, I can't do that if I don't continue to learn myself.

Hopefully, with this certification, I can help prevent the kind of unnecessary injuries I incurred over the last year. Please, donate what you can, and help me achieve my goal to help others #earntheday
