Student Laptop

My name is Danny Stern and I am a 3rd Grade teacher in the Bronx. We are  a "Title 1 School". In essence, there are a large amount of students who come from homes of low-income. To supplement this, students receive Federal funds to assist in meeting some of their most basic needs.

Teaching from home, specifically through this online format has been very challenging for some of my students. Today was the first day in two months that my eyes were truly opened to that impact, and the effect it is having on some of our families.

This morning I woke up to a message on Google Classroom. It was from one of my students who has not been able to complete much work. Until today, I didn't really understand why they weren't turning in assignments. After being on the phone with my students father, it was brought to my attention that he tried to purchase a computer for his son. He had saved money for 6 weeks. He thought he was getting a good deal by spending 250 dollars on an outdated 2007 Apple Ibook (this model is so old that it no longer exists). However, it is so outdated that he can't access any of the websites. All of the internet browsers no longer work, and none of the software updates are compatible. I feel so bad that this happened to this family and I want to make it up to them.

My goal is to raise 700 dollars so that I can surprise them with the "Google Pixelbook Go M3 Chromebook". This laptop will not only allow them access to all our programs, but it will continue to open different doors and avenues for my student's family. The money needs to be raised ASAP because right now my student is missing more and more work. Please help me make this student's life, and his family's life a little bit easier!
