The past couple of days we have faced the biggest challenge of our lives. What we thought was going to be an easy move back to the west, ended up being a traumatic tragedy.
We are broken right now, both physically and emotionally. As soon as we were welcomed by our beautiful family, we headed out to Nanga bush camp to celebrate our nephews 1st birthday.They welcomed us, we all celebrated and the dogs and the kids played for hours by the river.
Things turned south when night time came about. A big tree fell in the middle of our tent while we were sleeping.
We have sustained serious injuries and our daughter is currently being treated in the ICU of the children’s hospitals. She is stable and making progress.
Corona (our small dog) reacted on time and got out of the way but unfortunately our beautiful Mila (photo above) took most of the impact and did not make it.
We have received crazy amounts of support and love but for the first time (hopefully never again) we are reaching out to our social media platforms for help. As many of you know, we were full of dreams and hopes for this move back to the west. Those dreams now feel broken and almost impossible to reach. Brenda is currently on maternity leave and was planning on going back to work part time by mid next month. This is now not possible due the severity of her injuries. Max was planning on going straight to a new job by next week. Again, not possible due to his injuries requiring rest for at least 6 weeks before he starts recovery.
Our daughter will need 24 hr monitoring, for at least a month, which we won’t be able to provide on our own. We were prepared for life with ups and downs in the west but definitely not for this.
So with our hearts broken, we are reaching out for a bit of help. A goFundMe page has been set up to helps us get through this rough patch. Anything will help, but of course prayers, good vibes and crazy amounts of love sent our way will also be warmly welcome.
We know our beautiful hairy girl is looking down on us and this will soon be a distant memory and a reminder of how strong we are as a family and how much love we have around us.
