Hi. I’m Jack Curious. I am raising money to relocate myself and start a non profit in Los Angeles called Curious K9 Refuge. Safe Housing animals for people in Recovery. As a person in recovery and a dog parent myself, I know that our pets are our family. Actually closer to us than anyone because they know all of our moods, moves and habits. They know when we are well and not well. Sometimes when we suffer from our addictions our animals get literally lost in the shuffle. When some of us have needed help we didn’t help ourselves because we didn’t trust our family or partners or friends to properly and rightfully care for our pets so we suffered through it. Or worse we tried to get help only to find someone sent our dogs to the pound because they didn’t understand the nature of alcoholism and drug addiction and just thought we were out partying having a good time so they showed us by getting rid of our dogs!!! . Can you imagine? Devastating. My dream here is to provide a service that does not yet exist for people trying to get help with their addictions while they’re in treatment taking care of their dogs. (Probably cats and other animals eventually) Why Los Angeles? That’s where I’m from and where I have connections to people working in recovery who have told me they come across this problem time and time again. I have lived in NYC collectively now for 20 years, I’m ready to go back to the West Coast and apply what I have learned on the East Coast.I have been walking and training dogs for the last 4 years by myself in NYC. It has been rewarding and fulfilling in ways I can not even express. I have a bond with all of my clients and their dog parents;cat and fish parents too. As hard as it will be to say goodbye, I have to follow my instincts and answer the calling that has been keeping me up nights on end for months now. I have been working remotely by hiring dog walkers and fosters for a few different clients and I found a new purpose in helping to save people’s pets from an unknown fate and in turn helping their dog parents get better without the worry, guilt and remorse of possibly losing their dogs forever. My plan is to relocate to California.Immediately get all of my paperwork filed in the State of California.Start working immediatelyFind a space and get it built out properly for overnight boarding as well as daycare for dogs. Get all licenses, permits, etc..Visit all of the rehabs and introduce myself and our services. Hire recovering addicts/alcoholics to give them work training and experience. By working with dogs we help save, we all know they really save us. Why non-profit? Because all revenue generated will go directly back into business so we can afford to grant scholarships to dogs that are not privileged. I would also like to imagine this entire industry outliving me and my team and animal care being a priority for people having serious medical problems. Why fifty thousand dollars? Well, 50k to start a business as grand as this one is literally a drop in the bucket, I was told by a very close friend of mine who is also part of my team to shoot for 500K at the high and 50K for the low. But since this is the gofundme to get the non profit from a great idea to reality and to get me relocated I figured I would just go in with the low. Once I can figure out how to finish the expense report on the budget I will post it along with the other services we will be providing. This has been in the works for months, I just needed to get this rolling now so I can get the ball rolling. Time really is of the essence I have people and dogs waiting on me and quite frankly, if there was ever a job in life for me, this one is it. I’m about recovery. Saving dogs and saving lives. Please support me and thank you from the bottom of my heart with all of the gratitude in the world.
Sincerely,
Jack Curious
