Amanda was diagnosed with Leukemia on Monday, November 4,
2013 at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. The oncologists advised that she has Acute
Lymphatic Leukemia (ALL), the common but treatable version. Leukemia is an
awful cancer that is rare in comparison to other forms of cancer: according to
the National Cancer Institute, there were an estimated 48,610 new cases of
Leukemia in 2013 which equates to 2.90% of all new cancer cases in 2013.
Amanda is an energetic young woman who is enjoying high school but has now been given a burden that no child should ever have to bear. She has entered the second phase of chemotherapy with the understanding that there are six total phases that could last into April/May of 2014. Treatments are expensive, with an average cost of $1,300 per week. Jade & Joni are rightfully focused on getting their daughter the best treatment available but this additional financial stress cannot be ignored. This is where my goal comes into play and I need your involvement and assistance in order to achieve it.
On April 4, 2014 I will be a participant in a GORUCK Heavy event in New York City (https://www.goruck.com/en/heavy). GORUCK hosts military style events throughout the country every weekend and even hosts some events overseas. These events are not your typical competition or race: the focus is on team building and testing your perceived boundaries through mental challenges and physical exercises during a minimum time period and anticipated mileage all while carrying a weighted backpack ("ruck"). Rain or shine, extreme heat or bitter cold, a GORUCK Heavy event lasts at least 24 hours, the participants will traverse at least 35 miles, will have to carry at least 35 pounds in our rucks. The average pass rate for a GORUCK Heavy is 50%.
Please consider sponsoring me during my pursuit of completing this event. All funds (100%) raised will be donated to Amanda Greene for her treatment. All costs associated with participating in GORUCK Heavy (entry fee, travel costs, gear purchases) have been paid with my own funds.
Donations/pledges can be made in a variety of ways:
1. Pledge per mile traveled (anticipate at least 35 miles)
2. Pledge per hour completed (anticipate at least 24 hours)
3. Pledge per pound carried (will be at least 35 lbs)
4. Pledge per specific exercise(s), such as push-ups, squats, burpees, scissor kick, buddy carries, bear crawls, etc.
5. Lump sum donation / contribution of your choice
