FLOOD DAMAGE

Donation protected
Hi My name is Deirdre. I run a small apothecary business in the EdgeWater Community of Chicago. I built this business from a dream as a child from the projects on the east side of Chicago. It was says I’d never be able to own my own business coming from such bleak and poor beginnings. I’ve worked hard to shatter the negativity. I co-own this business with my 21 year old son. Who is in his final year at Columbia-Chicago College. So it’s also now his dream.

Ive invested all of my savings into this business to not only have a legacy handed down to my son, But to also help my family as well. The community and Commerce of Chambers have been a staple in our growth.

We hand make Clean Green Health & Wellness
products in an effort to help our communities inherit healthier skin & Haircare by sharing our beauty products which ultimately lends itself to a heightened awareness of self-care & mental health.

But we are now shut down from a flood due to a major water pipe bursting in the store next to ours. We’ve lost electrical equipment, live product from looters. Being after fireman opened front & back doors to let out the 2ft high standing water in our shoppe, products & inventory fled outward and ppl did not return those items. They grabbed what they could and ran. Additionally, by the time my son and I arrived just 23min after being notified. We walked into 3-6” of water left behind and electrical equipment on lower shelves fully submerged in water. They are all ruined. $4800 in equipment was wiped out in just 30 minutes from this disaster.

YES, we have insurance. But the insurance company will not cover labor to restore interior damage or any property damage. Like all standard business liability policies, they will only cover my “cost of goods” …
Moreover, any personal property damaged or lost is covered at a depreciated value. Meaning even when the insurance is eventually settled(months from now) , we won’t recover what we’ve invested. Which will cause us to not open in a timely manner to give back to our community. It’s a completely helpless & unfair place to be. We’ve put our heart & soul into this business.

We are desperately seeking your help to rebuild. We have been closed 12 days now and with little progress being made by our slum landlord, we are seeking the kindness of our community to help restore and reopen our shoppe to expedite repairs and replacement of lost equipment & supplies so we can keep bringing them the same handmade clean green beauty supplies they’ve come to love.

Please help us keep our dream alive and help us continue to provide clean green beauty choices to our neighborhoods. These are not only metime/selfcare feel good products, they also stimulate a heighten self appreciation that aids in mental health and wellness. We are serious about being in the service of others & our shoppe allows us to do just that. Your help will ensure we can get back to GIVING to our community.
