Back to the Michigan Patio Website

Calling all philanthropists, community organizers, investors, family and friends! Donate to preserve this Black Community legacy and treasure. Give to the Back to the Michigan Patio campaign to restore Michigan House.

This 11 acre, rural homestead, was built from the ground by Blondena Weaver in 1958. Inspired by the socio-political climate in Chicago, she saw a need for a serene space of solace for her family and friends. Just a two hour drive away, the house in Western Michigan has been just that for thousands over five generations.

The patio was a place where elders and children gathered, told stories and welcomed guests hailing from all over the midwest and beyond. Horseback riding, barbeques, church picnics, community organizer retreats, volleyball, fish-frys, basketball, softball and an annual apple picking event were just a few of the ways that people came together at the country home.

Right now, we need your help to preserve this property and restore it so that it can serve more families and be a community resource for generations to come.

In Phase one, we will to raise 41,000 by June 19th. This will save the house from being lost due to financial liens. In Phase 2, We will raise an additional 59,000 by August 1st to assist with renovations so that we can return to the patio and welcome families, non-profit groups and a host of others back to the grounds.

We welcome Legacy contributions of $20,000 and Foundation gifts of $10,000.

You may Partner with us for a donation of $1,000 or be a campaign Supporter for a donation $500.

We also welcome Family gifts of any size.
