Earle & his girl, Kathy

Donation protected
On September 29, 2009, Earle suffered a brain stem stroke which left him in a locked-in state for the past 9 years. While he remains paralyzed, he is not powerless. Thanks to the stalwart loving care and feisty advocacy of his devoted wife, Kathy, Earle continues to defy all odds. The couple was recently recognized as 2018 Advocates of the Year by United Spinal Association in Washington DC. They are passionate about disability rights and accessibility for the millions of wheelchair users in this country. They continue to live and work in their beloved Friendswood, Texas. They selflessly give of themselves, yet they loathe asking for help. But. Here we are.

After 30 days in the hospital, Earle and Kathy are facing not only an ongoing medical crisis, but a foreboding financial one as well. Disability is expensive, but weeks of hospitalizations in multiple facilities means Kathy has not been able to return to work. She is out of paid leave and Earle’s retirement income is now in effect at less than his prior disability income. The Powdrell family humbly and prayerfully requests financial donations. This is a last resort and one not entered into lightly. Any contribution is appreciated and will be put to direct use for Earle’s care and the couple’s expenses. (Kristen Huff will withdraw funds and deposit into the Friends of Earle Fund at JSC Credit Union.)

Any excess funds beyond Mom and Dad’s needs will be donated to The Houston Chapter of the United Spinal Association.

With love and gratitude,
Team Earle
