Intervening Infection

Donation protected

Hi Everyone! Thanks for visiting my donation page. My name is Kyle Kunze and I am currently a biological sciences major with a pre-medical focus in my second year at the University of Chicago. One of my interests is in the function and treatment of infectious disease (for example, host-pathogen interactions, how a disease affects the body, etc.).

For quite some time, I have strongly hoped to be able to have the opportunity to volunteer abroad and help children affected by infectious disease. I am currently looking into a multitude of programs of which I would have the opportunity to volunteer my efforts to help these children and gain insights from a direct interaction with them. Many of these programs offer an unforgettable experience, one which is very eye-opening. It may seem as if just one person may have trouble making a difference in the world, but with the right opportunities and tools one can turn an inch into a mile!

I created this page in hope to raise money such that I can volunteer and help those less fortunate for a month this upcoming summer. Most programs come with a significant fee, and do not include airfare. By creating this page, I am hoping to at least raise enough to cover one of the two costs.

The program I intend to volunteer for is called The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children. There are various programs available to help with, as mentioned, as there is a constant need for volunteers and medical assistance in underprivileged geographic areas abroad, but the two that I am interested in include Uganda or the Dominican Republic. At the bottom of the page are provided two links to these programs that describe the types of activities I will do. Both of these area have serious problems with infectious disease and as well as a lacking medical budget, making treatment of these diseases a prominent issue. By traveling to one of these two places, I will be able to work in clinics and help those afflicted in a hands-on manner, and campaign by teaching others the best ways to prevent these diseases and how they can stay safe.

So please, even if it is a very small financial donation, I will be grateful for whatever help I am given. If you choose not to, thank you for visiting the page! If I can raise enough money, I will make sure to post pictures, updates, etc. about my experience and hopefully pass along this experience to everyone. Let's help make the world a better, happier, and healthier place.

Also just recently, I was informed by a donor who would prefer to stay anonymous that in addition to these donations, he is willing to donate up to half of my intended goal (up to $750), so anything you donate will essentially be doubled up to that amount! Thank you again for visiting.
