Welcome to our GOFUNDME site for Carol and John White. This past Labor Day weekend Carol White was hospitalized after experiencing a seizure, and was subsequently diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her brain. Monday, Sept. 3rd she had surgery in an attempt to remove the mass. They were able to get some of the tumor but not all. She was in ICU for 10 days, and then moved by medical transport to an acute care, in-patient rehabilitation hospital due to some residual physical and cognitive deficits as a result of the mass itself, and the surgery. Surgery left her with left sided paralysis, not able to walk, no use of her left arm, and some left facial droop. Carol worked extremely hard in rehab and made a remarkable beginning in her battle with this disease. She was not able to start treatment for the cancer in rehab, or until she had more stability. As suspected by the Neurosurgeon the diagnosis is Glioblastoma. He even referred to it as “the John McCain” tumor. This tumor is very advanced, and very aggressive, and while the standard treatment for this type of cancer which combines chemotherapy and radiation therapy will be started, it is of optimal value to seek out and be accepted into a clinical trial for adjunct therapy. A clinical trial would help give Carol the greatest chance at survival. Carol’s brother in law is actively seeking available clinical trials, none of which will be found in her home town of Las Vegas. We are hopeful about a trial at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ and possibly UCLA, MD Anderson in Houston, and Duke University in NC. Needless to say, Carol is in the fight of her life, and while we do not know the road ahead, it is certain the cost of traveling, staying in possible long term quarters, and other costs not directly covered by the study will add up exponentially. She possesses the perseverance, faith, strength, and courage to make this journey, and we are hopeful that she will get the financial support to begin the next phase.
