WESTON WAYNE’S WARRIORS!

If you can imagine a laugh so genuinely happy, that it brought sunshine into your life and warmed your heart immediately, that would sum up our little 2 year-old, WESTON!

On Friday, September 21st, Weston, Todd and Ericka Robertson’s son, had his tonsils and adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears. Several days after surgery, he wasn’t acting like his normal, happy and playful self and Todd and Ericka noticed his right eye was bulging. So on Wednesday, September 26th, his ENT ordered a CT scan and told Todd and Ericka the next morning that Weston had a cancerous tumor that was located in the muscle behind his eye and the cancer most likely causing it was Rhabdomyosarcoma. He was able to get Weston an appointment for an MRI and to meet with a Pediatric Oncologist at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City early that next morning. After the MRI, many different tests and the Oncology team meeting together, it was determined Saturday afternoon that our little Weston actually has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) and what they originally thought was a “tumor” behind his eye, is actually a collection of Leukemia cells called a Chloroma.

Although finally having an actual diagnosis has brought some peace to Todd and Ericka, Weston has a very long road of fight AND recovery ahead of him. Due to the aggressiveness of Leukemia, his treatment has started immediately. Sunday, September 30th, the Oncology team performed a Lumbar Puncture where they administered his first dose of chemo directly into his Lumbar to try and prevent any cancerous cells traveling to his spine and brain. They also performed a Bone Marrow Aspiration to test his bone marrow and see how far the cancer has spread throughout his bones. Additionally, they placed a PICC line to administer his chemotherapy each day. A few hours later, Weston received his first dose of chemotherapy, beginning his first round. He will have a minimum of 5 rounds, each lasting 10 days. Once each round is finished, he will remain in the hospital for a few weeks while his body recovers and his immune system builds back up again. During this whole process, he will be receiving regular blood and platelet transfusions to keep his counts up.

After the 30 days have past, Weston will be able to go home for 7-10 days (a nurse will continue to administer blood transfusions and platelets at home, if needed) until it is time for him to come back to Primary’s and begin the process all over again. Also, when he returns to Primary’s at that time, they will test his bone marrow again (and every time before a round of chemo begins). If the results come back that the cancer is in “remission”, they will just continue with the chemo. If there isn’t much improvement, Weston will need a Bone Marrow Transplant and then will continue the remaining rounds of chemo. We are really praying it doesn’t come to that. The most difficult thing to witness has been the physical pain Weston has been in due to Leukemia being in the bones and the symptoms associated with that. Not only is it hard for us to see him in so much pain, but we can only imagine the pain and sorrow Todd and Ericka feel at this time.

This is where WE ALL, as Weston Wayne’s Warriors, come in! We would love YOUR help to lighten their load and ease their burdens to make it possible for both Todd and Ericka to spend as much time together with Weston. Because home, work and Shai and Adi (Weston’s sisters) are in Idaho, Todd will be traveling back and forth to Utah on the weekends to spend every minute he can with Ericka and Weston.
