Monica's fight

Donation protected
I could never imagine—at just 32 years old—being engaged to the man of my dreams and suddenly—just four months after having our first child together, finding out I have Stage III B cancer. I’d have no idea how I could afford to live on one income and support four children, without family nearby, how to calculate or estimate unexpected medical expenses during cancer treatment.

Therefore, I am raising funds to provide financial support to my brother Arron, especially his wife Monica. Monica was diagnosed with Stage IIIB Rectal Cancer the day after Christmas. They live in San Diego, CA, and are parents to four beautiful children: Carmine (10), McKenzi (10), Milli (8), and Carter (4 months).

On December 26th, Monica was scheduled for an emergency colonoscopy due to some frightening medical concerns. She never knew that day would change not only her life, but her family’s as well. Less than 1% of victims falling prey to this condition are under the age of 40 years. While younger patients face more difficult challenges than older patients, they still have greater than 50% success rate of overcoming, a 69% chance of 5-year survival, but a very high reoccurrence rate for young adults.

Monica begins chemotherapy and radiation on January 8th, 2018. According to her Oncologist, she must undergo surgery several weeks afterwards, followed by a second, and very intense, period of chemotherapy. Monica will have to do radiation therapy 5 days per week, for 6-8 weeks, and have her blood drawn amongst other tests weekly.

Monica is not only a great person who always smiles and takes pride in mothering her children, and is always willing to lend a helping hand. She’s carries a youthful and positive energy and is determined to overcome this obstacle. This is not just important to me, but would be important to any person who has endured such an unnecessary burden. With your help, we can give their family a boost of confidence, and alleviate their stress so that her children can reap the rewards of having a happy and battle ready mother.

The funds will go towards unexpected medical expenses and expenses associated with care for Monica and assistance with the children while my brother works to provide for the family. Other expenses would include temporary child care during treatment times and surgery. My brother/Monica’s husband, Michael Street, will be designated as the beneficiary. And, they both will work together to use the funds to pay for medical expenses, childcare, and transportation cost so that he can work, Monica can receive her treatment, rest, and recover.

While I understand not everyone can contribute, Arron, Monica, and their children could use all your thoughts and prayers you have to offer. I want to extend thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this page. Should you find it within your means, I encourage you to contribute to this fund to create a financial safety net that will alleviate their burden by covering their unexpected expenses.
