Savannah’s Mobility Service Dog

So, as some of you may know, I have this pretty sucky disease called Friedreich’s Ataxia. It’s a genetic, progressive, neurological disorder that causes extremely poor coordination, sensory neuropathy, a nasty heart condition, oh, and I will eventually be in a wheel chair full time.. because of this diagnosis, I’m eligible for the Make a Wish Foundation which most of you are probably familiar with. I’ve been talking with my Make a Wish case worker since June and my wish has always been to get a mobility service dog. More specifically, have my sweet chocolate lab, Emmitt, trained to be my service dog. Unfortunately (for reasons that are unknown to me), as of September 1st, 2018 Make a Wish will no longer be granting service dog wishes. Meaning, MAW can not and will not grant my mobility service dog wish. Despite this, I am forever grateful for Make a Wish and the opportunities it gives kids even younger than me to experience life in a way we probably wouldn’t be able to otherwise. A service dog for me would mean: more independence, less falls, less pain, and more safety. That being said, I need your help. It is extremely expensive to train a mobility service dog and I simply do not have the luxury of spending that amount of money on this much needed medical tool. Between classes, my pets, rent, AND extensive medical bills, I’m just as broke as any other college student. If you have anything to spare, anything at all, please please donate and I promise you 100% of the funds I receive will go toward Mr. Emmitt’s training.
