Support for Glenna

Donation protected
My sister Glenna Carew is a 55 year old single mother who dedicated her life to her son and family. Glenna is an extremely proud woman who has prided herself on being independent her whole life, so asking anyone for help is not in her nature. This is why I have taken it upon myself to tell her story.

In June of 2013, my sister found herself in the E.R. of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after a two month struggle with debilitating migraines, dizziness and the systematic loss of motor skills in her right hand. Upon her arrival, she was immediately sent for an Ultra Sound and MRI which detected a large mass on the back left side of her brain and two additional small tumors on the front left side of her brain. Within two days of being admitted into the hospital, she successfully underwent Brain surgery to remove the large mass. While she was recovering, the doctors came in to explain that the tumor removed was malignant and that multiple tumors on the brain rarely form on their own and usually have metastasized from somewhere. Additional testing showed a large tumor in her right lung and she was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma (Lung Cancer) which had metastasized to the brain. Glenna was devastated!

Her course of treatment was to receive five Cyber Knife Radiation Treatments for the tumors on her brain immediately followed by chemotherapy every three weeks. Although the treatments have helped, she has never fully regained the use of her right hand and still suffers from headaches which are now compounded with fatigue from her treatments. Her surgeon had advised her that she would not be able to work during much of her treatment and could be out for as long as 6 to 12 months or longer. At this point, we are almost 7 months into treatment and still unable to return to work.

My sister has medical coverage, so her radiation and chemotherapy are covered. However, she still needs to pay rent, utilities, purchase groceries and medications. Glenna has looked into options for government assistance and she was able to receive a food allowance and SSI. However, the amount she was eligible to receive from SSI is so minimal that it does not even cover her utilities, let alone her rent.

Many people have asked what they can do to help Glenna through this difficult time. I have set up this fundraising site for those that would like to contribute monetary donations to support Glenna and all donations received will directly benefit her. Your support will reduce my sister's daily burden and let her focus her attention on getting well!

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

My family and I would like to thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts.
