Effective Training for a Better Life

Donation protected

Dear family and friends,

As many of you know, our son, Sebby, is totally awesome and has Down syndrome. At almost 7 years old, he is totally nonverbal, not toilet trained, doesn't know how to play with others, and though he interacts with us somewhat now, Sebby is lagging severely behind in his ability to interact with others. While we have had some success with dietary and supplemental therapies and the therapies offered at school and Easter Seals, it has still not been enough. We heard about The Son-Rise Program® at the Autism Treatment Center of Americaâ„¢ about a year ago (for more information see their website: www.autismtreatment.com), and, although he's not Autistic according to some doctors we've seen (and he *is* according to OTHER doctors we've seen), it seemed to be something that would work for Sebby. Some of the things they recommend have been implemented with him already, and they have helped him to connect with us. The autism center which runs The Son-Rise Program has been voted by parents as the Best Autism Therapy at Autism One Conferences. Every family we've spoken with who has used this program has stated how positively life changing it's been for their children and their families. Katie plans to travel to the Autism Treatment Center of America in April for a week of intensive training. Through this training we will be able to work more effectively with Sebby over the next several years to help him adapt in the face of autistic tendencies. The success rate of The Son-Rise Program instills hope in us. We believe that this training will better equip us to support him towards more independence.

We have applied for, and received, a small scholarship toward the cost of the Start Up program, but we still have the rest of the training fees, travel expenses, and other costs associated with training and implementation of the program. Of course, we will personally carry as much of this as we can, but with a single income we will need some help. Therefore, we are asking family and friends that can do so to consider helping us with the expenses associated with this training program. It is not our intention to place you in an awkward position, and we assure you that we fully understand and respect the fact that you may not be able to help (many of you are mothers with special needs children yourselves). However, if you can, we will forever appreciate it. We would not ask this favor if it was only for our benefit, but have made this exception because it is for the wellbeing of our son. We could really use the help to give Sebby some kind of a future. If you want to visit with us about any of this, feel free to call us. We would love to hear from you! (whether you can or cannot help with these costs). Thanks for reading our note, being there for Sebby, and for any financial help you might be able to give.

With sincere thanks,
Katie and Matt Adamczyk
