My name is Kelly Sweitzer. My husband Charlie and I evacuated the coast of NC with our two pups ahead of Hurricane Florence. Our hearts are breaking for our hometown, Wilmington, NC, but she’s strong and full of wonderful, amazing humans.
We are currently in Jacksonville, FL with family and plan to make our way home in a couple of days, probably Thursday. Not being there to help has been hard, but obviously nothing compared to what folks on the ground there are dealing with.
Our plan: collect a little dough, rent a truck, buy as many supplies as will fit, and head back! We’re going to grab food, diapers, dog food, chainsaws and chains, propane, toiletries, meds, and anything else you guys suggest. Items purchased will be going to Foxes Boxes, who has been on the ground serving food to north side residents, and Good Shepherd Center (a Local Wilmington shelter/non-profit), as well as several private citizens in need.
Just trying to rally around our own here. 100% of any money that comes in after the supply run will absolutely be donated to local Wilmington relief efforts. Stay safe out there y’all.
