Francine's fight against stage 4 cancer

Donation protected

This is my wonderfully animated and beautiful cousin, Francine Garcia-Morin with her 4 delightful children. Unfortunately, she has Stage 4 colorectal cancer which metastasized to the liver, lungs and ovaries. She was diagnosed in January of 2012 after a fluke in home injury. She finally went to the hospital when the pain became too severe. She figured she had just strained her back, but after the doctors ran several tests, some suspicious lesions were identified on her liver, in addition to a positive colon test. She was obviously devastated, but the most difficult part was explaining to her 4 beautiful children, Alex 16, Anthony 13, Anissa 8 and Abbie 5, that their mommy had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer.

They are the reasons why she has refused to give in to cancer since her fight began, but she and her family are in dire need of assistance to continue her fight. From the beginning, she has been traveling to and from Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center to receive the best care there, but she has just received the news she has been dreading to hear. Francine has run out of treatment options that MD Anderson can offer. The intravenous chemotherapy is no longer working and maybe the clinical trials of chemotherapy oral medication may help her, but there is no guarantee that this will work. The family has started looking at other options.

The family looked into the Cancer Center Treatments of America but to their dismay, they do not take out of state medicare insurance. So the family would be required to pay everything out of pocket. Therefore, they looked into the UTSA cancer research facility which is much closer to home and will thus enable Francine to continue to participate in her kids' school functions and activities as much as possible. She wants a second opinion and intends to keep up the fight.

She and her family are trying to come up with ways to fund this trip and treatment strategy as almost all of the family's assets have been exhausted. We are asking for family, friends and all to find it in their heart to assist the family and Francine in her desire and quest to continue the good fight. She will continue to do what she can for herself and her children, living on her terms, not cancer's. She has come this far and will continue to live for herself and her children until God calls her home. We want to thank everyone in advance for your generous support and thoughtfulness. Thank you for the out pouring of love you have shown for the family, children and especially our beloved Francine.

God Bless you all
