We are asking for help for our son Nathan. Nathan has CF, a progressive and fatal disease which devastates the lungs, digestive system and more. It is often an invisible disease. On the outside Nathan appears a healthy, active 7-year old boy, but he must fight every day to slow the decline inside. When Nathan was just 5 months old, he was hospitalized with a collapsed lung and failure to thrive. His weight had dropped to below 1%. After Nathan was released from the hospital, we were able to bring his weight up to the 60-70th percentile and have kept it there for 6 years . . . until this year.
Over the last year, Nathan’s weight percentile gradually dropped by 21%, with the biggest drop at his June appointment of 13%. Since June, we have worked diligently and increased his weight percentile by 24%! But the cost to sustain what he needs is more than we can do on our own. CF is a costly disease in both time and money. We are looking for individuals, organizations or churches willing to help support Nathan, both in prayer and financially. Nathan’s expenses not covered by insurance are over $800/month.
Many, many children with CF are on feeding tubes. Doctors feel it is just too hard for a child with CF to grow and thrive without one, and growth and lung function are inseparable with CF. The beginning of lung health is the ability to gain weight and grow. Individuals with CF must eat 120-150% more calories than those without just to maintain their weight, and they must be able to digest and absorb what they eat as well. Please help us help Nathan continue to thrive with this disease, with a weight percentile of 77% and lung function of 105% at his last appointment!
In addition, Nathan’s dad, Jim, was out of work without pay for 6 weeks this summer due to tick-born illness. He has worked 2 jobs, 12-14 hours a day, 6 days a week, since Nathan was born and provides our only source of income. We are still fighting his short-term disability denial, and with the money spent to bring Nathan’s weight up, we are desperately trying to meet our expenses. Would you be willing to partner with us in prayer or financially on an ongoing or even one-time basis? Would your church be willing to talk with us? Do you know of others who might help? God is faithful, and we thank Him for His provision, grace and mercy to our family and for the goodness God’s family has shown us time and time again.
