STEM Program with rescued Super Soakers

Donation protected
The last several years my passion has been using the super soaker to promote an alternative gun culture. Firearms only have destructive capabilities and toys that simulate the appearance and mechanics of firearms can be dangerous in the hands of children. Super soakers on the other hand use water with real power to cool, nourish, and purify. I’ve travelled to many countries with this message and shared water guns with children because putting “Waterarms over Firearms” would make the world a more peaceful place.

African American engineer Dr Lonnie Johnson invented the super soaker while working at NASA. I would like to use the origin and technology behind the super soaker to develop a STEM education program in Ghana.
I was thinking of a way for children to build their own DIY super soakers but the process is costly and resource intensive. As a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative I have traveled to Thailand and collected a large amount of water guns discarded after the Buddhist new year water festival. Many of the super soakers are in need of simple modifications and repairs that kids will be able to do. All the principles and components within a super soaker translate directly to plumbing and water infrastructure. Water treatment and efficiently transporting water are two of the greatest challenges facing the developing world. Understanding and modifying super soakers is a fun easy way to promote, plumbing, engineering, and technical skills in the youth. It will also save hundred of pounds of plastics from ending up in landfills and oceans.

I would like to raise $3000 dollars to handle the logistics of collecting and shipping super soakers from Thailand to Ghana. The shipping has costs 3200 dollars but the super soakers have arrived on Ghana. Songkran has started and I have collected a cargo van full of super soakers so far and the festival isn’t even over yet! When the festival is over tourist will just toss them en mass (there are hundreds of thousand of people in the streets). My family in Ghana will assist with receiving the soakers on that side of the world.

My uncle is a retired official from the department of education and we will work together to develop a workshop. We will travel to rural areas throughout Ghana to work with groups of children at water sources to fix the super soakers, then enjoy them . I am in the process of getting 501c3 status and seeking sustainable sources of governmental and private funding; however, to take advantage of this year’s festival (happening now - April 2019), we are seeking funding from the public. Thank you so much for your help! Happy Thai New Year!

Just an update for you the Shipping for the soakers was 3200 hundred dollars but they have arrived safely in Ghana and my uncle has secured them. I have my visa to go to Ghana and I hope to begin the workshops in September! Your donations will help be me buy tools and supplies that I will be able gift to the kids so that they can fix their super soakers and potentially their plumbing long into the future. Thank you!
