Coping With Loss

Hi. My name is Katelyn and I’m very hesitant to start this or share my story but here goes.
When we found out I was pregnant we were ecstatic! We couldn’t wait to be parents and even had a gender reveal party to find out we were having twin boys. My pregnancy was amazing and the boys were healthy so on 8/12/18 when I went into preterm labor and my water broke, we were completely shocked, scared, and had no clue what was going on.
It happened at 12:45am and by the time we got to Jefferson Hospital at 1:20am I was already 3cm dilated. Every single doctor that came in had a sad look on their face and told me there was nothing that could be done. I’ve never felt my heart deflate and my soul leave my body until this day.
I got transferred via ambulance to West Penn Hospital shortly after knowing that they had the best NICU.  After asking every question in the book with nothing but an “I’m sorry there’s nothing we can do” I delivered both my boys about 2 hours apart after a long labor.  They were breathing when I delivered but passed on my chest both within 20 minutes because their lungs were not developed enough to survive outside my womb.  I have no answers as to what went wrong and have been struggling with that a lot. I miss them, I miss being pregnant, and felt a piece of me stayed with them at that hospital.

Long story short, I have been off work for a month now and was expecting to be paid short term leave from Aflac but it got denied. After much time on the phone, I found out they have a “pregnancy clause in their short term leave” and only cover claims if you deliver after having the policy for 10 months. Needless to say, my monthly bills plus the now very expensive medical bills won’t stop rolling in and here we are.... I’ve been very independent my whole life and have been working since I was 12 so this is very hard for me to do. But desperate times call for desperate measures and I’m only asking because I have to. Before this all happened we had an offer accepted on a new home big enough for our growing family so we aren’t even allowed to touch what we do have left in savings. It’s true when they say how precious life is and how it can change in the blink of an eye.
Even a penny will help me at this point and if you can’t afford that then thank you for even taking the time to read my story.
Have a great day and thank you.
