Help Julie Staples Beat Bile Duct Cancer ~

“Life can change in a second.” We’ve all heard this phrase and pray those changes will be positive ones. For my beloved sister-in-law, Julie Staples, and my brother, Clint and nephew,Jacob, they are experiencing this in the most extreme of ways.
Just several weeks ago, in December 2019, Julie began experiencing a pain in her leg. A visit to the doctor resulted in a X-ray of her leg. What the doctor saw on the X-ray was concerning and decided a MRI would be the best next step. The MRI came back with results that then led to a CT and a full body bone scan.
After lots of tests and consults, Julie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma, also known as Bile Duct Cancer, with cancer being found in her liver, stomach, lungs and on her leg. As anyone can imagine, we were all shocked and saddened by this news.
Julie's team of doctors got to work and are treating her cancer as aggressively as possible...which means extremely strong chemotherapy every other week for the foreseeable future.
Julie has not been able to work since her treatment began, taking an extended leave of absence from her nursing job at Duke Hospital. She has been bound to a wheelchair since the cancer in her leg has weakened the bone to the point where her doctors have been concerned that she may break it, if not extremely careful.
On March 25th, Julie will receive another CT scan to determine how well her body is responding to the chemotherapy treatment.
In addition to your thoughts, prayers and endless good vibes, the most meaningful way you can support Julie, Clint and Jacob is with a pledge of financial support. Your contributions will go directly to funding Julie’s care, and will aid in funding the treatment plan that will help strengthen and lengthen Julie’s quality of life.
