Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Strangers,
   Hello, my name is Elizabeth, I am one of the victims that was trapped and rescued from having a tree fall on my home during a severe tornado storm. our lives changed forever on Wednesday, June 5th, at 7:30 pm. A powerful tornado struck Gaithersburg, Maryland, with winds of 105 mph causing a massive tree on our property to fall onto our house. It was a moment of sheer terror that my family and I will never forget.

We were standing in my room when the tornado started picking up. My heart was pounding in my ears as the storm intensified. In a matter of seconds, the roof above us collapsed, and we were trapped under a heap of rubble from the roof, attic, and ceiling. The weight and chaos pinned us down, and for 15-20 agonizing minutes, we were stuck, unable to move or see a way out.

My dad’s nose was split open, requiring stitches, and my mom’s head was severely injured, bleeding profusely. She lost so much blood that it covered my dad and I. As she drifted in and out of consciousness, I was on the phone with 911 for 12 minutes, desperately hoping for help to arrive.
 When the firefighters arrived and broke the guest bedroom window to reach our door, even tearing it down to get to us. Despite their bravery and quick action, we all sustained injuries. My mom was carried out on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital, where she received stitches on her head. We later learned that she also suffered a broken disc in her lower back due to the impact.

 The tornado left us with nothing but the clothes on our backs and the need for extensive medical care. We are grateful to be alive, but the road to recovery and rebuilding our home is daunting. Insurance will only cover a fraction of the expenses, and we are now faced with the enormous task of starting over from scratch.

Nuestras vidas cambiaron para siempre el miércoles 5 de junio, a las 7:30 pm. Un poderoso tornado golpeó Gaithersburg, Maryland, con vientos de 105 mph, causando que un enorme árbol en nuestra propiedad cayera sobre nuestra casa. Fue un momento de terror absoluto que mi familia y yo nunca olvidaremos.
Estábamos en mi habitación cuando el tornado comenzó a levantarse. Mi corazón latía fuertemente en mis oídos mientras la tormenta se intensificaba.
