My name is Ha Luong. I am a
political science and international business graduate from the University of
Alberta. For years, my study of the consequences of economics and
geopolitics on society raised many questions.
The most poignant question was why the majority of the world population must
struggle to obtain the basic requirements for survival, while others who
possess the means to improve their lives remain oblivious to their suffering.
My volunteer position with the International Volunteer HQ in Cambodia will bring me to work alongside a local non-governmental organization (NGO). The organization supports the least fortunate people such as those who may have had the very land beneath their feet taken away from them. International Volunteer HQ offers assistance by fostering opportunities and advocating the reconstruction of the country. The organization fights for the basic rights and freedoms of the people in Cambodia. They seek to educate the people about basic laws and democracy to empower the people to establish their own rights and freedoms.
My volunteer program is approximately three months long during which I will be living with a local host family. This will allow me to fully immerse myself into the Cambodian community and culture. My position with the International Volunteer HQ will give me the opportunity to address issues of gender, community and rural development and help establish democracy. It is my sincere hope that this experience will allow me to fully appreciate the obstacles and hardships that the people of Cambodia face everyday and allow me to focus my time and effort into making a difference. Now, it is my turn to ask for help from you. I need $10,000 USD in donations to help send me to Cambodia. Your donation will directly assist my host family in purchasing much needed food, clean drinking water and medicine. No amount is too little and every donation is very much appreciated.
