Since that day, Consuelo and her three children, J (15), M (8), and L (21), have been struggling to stay afloat while navigating the painful uncertainty of Jose’s detention.

<div>Jose, who came to the U.S. from Guatemala in 1999 at just 16 years old, has built his entire life here. He is a hardworking father and husband who has lived and contributed to the community for over two decades. His sudden detention has left the family heartbroken, with Consuelo now the sole caretaker and provider for their children.

<div>While their oldest daughter helps when she can, the family is barely managing to cover basic needs. Consuelo worked at a local restaurant but now only finds occasional work. The family’s rent alone is $1,300 a month, and with Jose’s income gone, every month is a struggle to keep their home. To make matters worse, Jose’s legal case is expensive. The family owes over $10,000 in legal fees.
