Thank you everyone for your continues support. Thanks to your donation we will have a bench with dedication plaque!!!! But your support is still needed. Additional funds collected will be used to cover expenses connected with our celebration on October 12th, like rental of the Bartlett Shelter, etc. We really hope to see you all there!!!!
Dear Friends of the Czech and Slovak School of Pittsburgh, we are asking you again for your support. Thanks to your generous donations last year, we were able to plant a linden tree in Shenley Park. This tree serves as a symbol of freedom and a reminder of the democracy Czechs and Slovaks obtained 100 years ago.
Both year, 2018 and 2019, mark very important anniversaries for our nation’s history. Last year, we remembered not only the 100 years from the fall of Austro-Hungarian empire, but also 50 years since 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Russians. This year, November 17th will mark 30 years since the Velvet Revolution that changed our history.
What a better way to remember this momentous occasion than to dedicate a bench with a commemorative plaque next to our Linden tree. We have been working with the Department of Public Works of Pittsburgh on this project, but we need your help in raising additional funds to pay for the bench. Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will go towards making this project a reality.
We invite you to join us in commemorating these events and helping us celebrate the final unveiling of the bench and tree on Flagstaff Hill on October 12th. The short ceremony will be followed by a community potluck and bbq in the nearby Bartlett Shelter ( details to follow). We are excited to celebrate our shared history and look forward to making new memories in Shenley Park this fall with members of the Czech and Slovak community!
