Cyrus Leonhardt, born 1/7/11 10:51am, is my youngest son with
everything ahead of him. For being so young, I would have to say he has been through a lot. One month before birth he underwent major surgery with his mother as she had a spinal tumor removed. She was in terrible pain the whole pregnancy. I believe he has been a victim of pain since day one.
Early on it was apparent Cyrus seemed to struggle (with style of course) with things my oldest didn't. At first I thought he was colicky, maybe he was, who really knows, right? His wonderful mother would spend all day walking, bouncing, wearing him in attempt to stop the screaming that lasted hours of days. I'
m sure most you parents can relate to how loud a little one can scream. Despite his uncomfortable times he still wowed us with hitting early milestones for crawling and walking. Earned himself the nickname "monkey" from his ability to climb just about anything! His strengths, despite it all continue to amaze.
After much trial and error we have found a path for Cyrus to follow that has improved his ability to communicate, lessen his sensory struggles and anxieties. To me, his father, I would always naturally think about the reason he does the things that he does. For kids like Cyrus, relief is felt by movement of the fluid in his head and deep pressure felt against his body. That explains his spinning games, endless hours of bouncing and jumping and the need for body slamming the couch and unassuming big brother at times. Those who have seen Cyrus bounced to sleep know the familiar exercise ball in the family room.
His fearless jumping has caused a first tooth injury. A chipped front tooth but this is not of immediate concern. Along with this, Cyrus has a molar that is in pretty bad decay. We took him to a nice pediatric dentist, taking quite a while for Cyrus to come around and open his mouth - some may know Cyrus' entire story and know that one thing Cyrus really doesn't like is people touching his head, let alone his mouth or even teeth. Dentist gave the impression that we could wait a bit - as insurance is not active at the moment.
However, Cyrus has currently developed a large abscess and needs an extraction. Due to his age and personality, he will need to be asleep for the procedure. We need an anesthesiologist. As I listened to the costs racking up, my wallet began kicking me in the butt, ouch! Not knowing what is inside his mouth for sure, it could be simple or multiple procedures to save him from the infection. He is now on a second round of antibiotics with no relief from the situation. He is in pain and barely eating. He has endured so much pain in his little life so far we want to get this resolved for him!
This procedure will happen no matter what the result of this fundraiser but our family is reaching out for any help at all. Every penny will go straight to the dentist and instead of giving money today to the bum on the street - would you like to participate to help my youngest get better? Will you please help Cyrus' Boo Boo go Bye Bye?
