<div>On the 25th of July Mikayla was taken to hospital for abdominal cramping and collapsing upon arrival we received a positive covid test and her diagnosis was put down to gastro due to covid and we were sent home on the 29th of July, however she was unable to walk or talk. I put this down to her body being absolutely exhausted. On the 30th the virtual covid clinic called and the nurse emphasized that this was not normal and we needed to head back. We re presented to hospital where they acted incredibly quickly and before I knew it we were in a room with 5 drs, head scan was done and we she was taken to ICU at all Queensland childrens Hospital.

<div>Queensland childrens Hospital did and MRI and discovered that she had swelling on the brain (cerebellum) and down her spine and treated her with multiple medications to try and help her out as this had never been seen before and def not with covid in the mix. On day 3 she went into kidney failure and was unable to stay awake. They told me they needed to do a kidney bypass to work out what was going on and that they also needed spinal fluid. With sedation she got through that and each day the kidney results got better and she slowly was able to stay awake longer. However she was still unable to walk talk or do anything other than be awake. After 2 weeks in ICU we were released to the ward where she needed daily rehab.

<div>We are now home after 4 long weeks in the hospital, she started walking yesterday but speech and fine motor skills are heavily impacted... All because of covid.

<div>I started this account for multiple reasons to get her anything she needs until she is fully recovered, however long that will be. To help our family of 7 (5 kids) with any bills (taxi to and from hospital as her wheelchair doesn't fold) while we navigate rehab and reduced work loads (both self employed) while caring for her. I'd also absolutely love to take her away somewhere for a few days just to be a kid again.

<div>But mostly to raise awareness, Mikayla is 6 she has no auto immune diseases no underlying medical issues no regular medications and was doing completely well for her age prior to all of this. Covid nearly killed her. Please please keep your babies safe tomorrow's never guaranteed
