That's an outrageous goal right? Well now that we've gotten your attention, here's our cause:
We in no way have any expectations of hitting the 6 million dollar goal mark, but we do hope to raise as much as possible to help with medical and living expenses for one of our closest friends. His name is Alexander Bermudez, Lex for short. He's been combating Perianal Crohn's disease along with Ulcerative Colitis since his teens and his battle has only gotten harder over time. Like mostly all people with sicknesses he has sought the help of doctors for treatments and options to subdue this painful disease but along the way each option and treatment brought his way has actually made him worse than he was before he even started treatments. In the past two years he's had more procedures done than we can count. At 26 he's had 2 heart attack like episodes from pericarditis, has had his kidneys almost fail him from an infection called pielonefritis, has had a stroke which has changed him mentally and physically, and has also almost bled to death due to his intestinal walls having little to no tissue left. He's unable to walk well since he has around 4 "growths" (doctors have yet to give him an actual name for them) coming out of his rectum which leaves him in constant pain. Multiple doctors have explained to him why surgery isn't an option and have no real solution. Two of those doctors have even told him prayer may be his only option. Sounds crazy right? Imagine hearing that yourself.
He's lost his job and all of his savings including his 401k retirement fund. He's being put through hoops and hurdles trying to get assistance through social security disability and has been denied multiple times. We know all of this seems pretty unbelievable, until you actually live it. On top of all of this, by the end of this year he will no longer have insurance; with no income or insurance of his own, lack of funds for his medical care amongst living expenses has become a real issue.
We're hoping this go fund me will at least provide some relief so that he won't stress as much and can focus on getting healthy again.
