A HOME FOR THE KRIER'S

Donation protected

In 2000 Brian Krier, along with his wife, Jackie and 3 children, ages 1 month, 4 and 7 years ( their forth child was born in 2001), bought a small "dream acreage" in Soldier, Iowa. The house on the property needed a lot of repair and TLC, but Brian was looking forward to doing the work with the help of his father, and brother. On January 1, 2005, Brian was driving home from Soldier, when he hit black ice and his truck skidded down a 30 foot embankment into a field, where he lay out of his vehicle for 11 hours in damp 10 degree temperature. By the time he was found, he had a body temperature of 85*, a very weak pulse, one shoulder dislocated and the other was out of its socket. He had a broken collar bone, two discs that were crushed and many out of alignment; he was unable to move his arms and legs. He had severe frostbite and was very close to death. He was air-lifted to a Sioux City, Iowa hospital where they were able to save his life, but he was told he would never walk again. Tragically, Brian's brother died at the time the Krier's moved into their home, and Brian's dad passed away in 2003. So even before his accident, Brian was not able to realize his goal of fixing up the house with his father and brother, and after his accident, he was unable to continue the needed repairs on his own.

Since 2005, the house has fallen into extreme disrepair; There are many dangerous and urgent situations that need to be addressed: The house is settling to the point that rain water rushes into the basement causing mold; the electrical wiring is so antiquated that outlets spark and there is danger of fire; the floors are bowed and the deck is pulling away from the house, causing an unsafe environment; their main source of heat in the house is a wood-burning furnace in the basement which is difficult for Brian to get to. These are just a few of the problems and the house cannot be repaired. They need to rebuild.
At this time the Krier's extended family and friends are determined to build them a basic new home, which will be handicap accessible. There are many who have the knowledge and skills to build the new house, however, much financial help is still needed.

This summer Brian's wife --- his only caregiver had a double masectomy. She is now unable to do the many chores she did before. This is putting the family in a very difficult position. The Krier family is in urgent need to have a new home built...one that Brian is able to get around in and to take care of. A very basic home is more urgent now.

Any help would be a great blessing to the Krier family and very much appreciated.
